Representations of the Vampire Archetype in Anime

The vampire appears in media constantly with multiple spins and shapes taken on this long time trope of horror and fantasy. But what is the appeal of the monster and the these powerful, yet sometimes, tragic characters that keeps them reappearing in popular culture? Through discussion and audience involvement, this panel aims to study this archetype and its use to represent multiple themes and the overarching appeal of utilizing these characters in narrative...all to answer the complex question as what they are meant to represent in us as viewers. This is a multi-disciplinary panel meant to find a needed middle ground between philosophy, literature, art, psychology, and anthropology to study one of media's most popular icons. Anime properties examined will include classics such as Hellsing Ultimate, Trinity Blood, Vampire Knight, Blood+, and Vampire Hunter D

The Vampire Court of Dallas / Fort Worth is a newly federally certified 501(c)3 organization that seeks to empower the Vampire and Other-kin subcultures and perform actions that directly impact the local area. We do this by partnering with local clubs and venues throughout the DFW metro-plex, as well as many local small-businesses, with the goal of simply doing good in the city that we love. At the same time, we are a fully-democratic member-driven group that gives our membership a voice in the day to day business and future actions of the organization. While our role is steadily growing in the metropolitan landscape of Dallas, we seek to not only make a positive impact locally, but also nationally, through our example of acceptance, inclusion, and diversity.
