Kantai Collection Intro and Discussion
Solo Presentation ANIME
Kantai Collection was launched as a Japanese free-to-play Flash game. It has ballooned into one of the largest properties in the world of anime, spawning a series, a movie, games, doujins, knock-off games, and lots of merchandise. How did we get here? And what the heck is it? All will be explained in this panel!

I run into a lot of people at conventions who have basically heard of Kantai Collection somehow, but don't actually know anything about it. The fanbase is everywhere, toting merchandise all over the place, and it's not an unpopular subject for cosplay, often involving large, intricate, and eye-catching props. I want to explain about the game to people and then talk about the various media it has gone into. I think Kantai Collection is a bit unique in that a lot of it's lore and characterization is open-ended, so much of it comes from fan works. In that way I think it resonates among artists out there. I want to not only reach out to new people, but also players who have been playing for some time and are invested into the franchise. There should be a place to gather everyone who plays or follows Kantai Collection. Last year I hosted this panel at Anime Overload and the week after I attended a similar panel at AnimeFest. At the latter panel I found myself correcting the host enough times that he handed me the mic and I clambered on stage to lead the rest of the panel. Ever since meeting a KanColle cosplayer at A-Kon a few years ago, I've gotten myself sunk deeper and deeper into the fandom. It's something I've become passionate about and I've been told I'm knowledgeable by other fans. As mentioned above, it's not my first panel and I want to, like anyone else, tell more people about the things I love.
