LGBTQA Representation in Anime and Manga
Dual Presentation Age 18+ CULTURE
Representation, seeing yourself in the form of relatable characters who share traits with you, has been found to be profoundly important psychologically. Anime and Manga has characters with different sexualities and gender expressions, but is there enough representation and is it good representation ? My presentation covers LGBTQA character representation, why it’s important, and some good, some bad, and some ugly representation examples. Audience Q and A after.

Hi! I’m Professor Erin Messick. I teach biology at a community college in downtown Dallas and I teach at a STEM camp. I’m in charge of foodie events with Dallas Anime Meetup (go DAM fam!) and I’m a member of BL Garden of DFW, Japan America Society, Ladies Who Geek, and the Dallas Pin Up Doll’s.
