David Parker, aka Hawkeward Cosplay, is a formula/pharmacy technician, wildlife biologist, embossed metal artist, cosplayer, and occasional cosplay contest judge from the DFW area. He enjoys crafting with all materials, repousse', Pokémon Go, birding, and video games.
Birding and Pokemon are similar in many ways. In fact, Pokemon was made by a wildlife enthusiast who collected bugs as a child. The panel will be half presentation, half game/workshop. For the presentation, I will go over the similarities between the two, particularly their history, conventions and events, the competitive side of the hobby, photography, filling the Life List (the birder’s Pokedex), travel, and the spirit of adventure, community, wildlife and the outdoors. We’ll go over basic identification skills, how to properly use binoculars and field guides, then play a game of Who’s That Bird?! Which consists of slides of common local bird species, which the audience will identify using provided field guides. I presented this panel in 2018, and I have a degree in Wildlife Biology where I took Ornithology, Avian Science, and multiple related class. I’m also a birding hobbyist, and lifelong Pokemon enthusiast since 1998. I have 6 or so field guides on hand for the audience, and Animefest purchased and provided additional field guides, which may still be in storage. If I could have those available for audience members, I would appreciate it. I will also need a projector and HDMI connection, no audio needed. The panel can be classified either as a Presentation or Workshop.
