What possesses 4 Americans to form a band and write music with Japanese lyrics?

Ten years ago, we were a bunch of kids who formed a band to play covers of our favorite Japanese Rock and anime theme songs. We quickly discovered that playing covers just wasn’t enough and strived to create something entirely new. Influenced by a wide breadth of musical styles and genres, we’re a four member American J-Rock band that combines Japanese and English lyrics to create unique music that bridges the gap between American and Japanese music while representing the Rock music we fell in love with so many years ago.

Now celebrating our 10th anniversary, akai SKY is advancing American J-Rock music by continuing to merge influences from both countries and molding it into a new and exciting Rock-fueled music genre.

Formed in 2005 by guitarist Hayashi and bassist Umi, vocalist Ryuusei and drummer Jinra joined akai SKY in 2008. We have performed over 70 shows at venues and events celebrating Asian and American culture and music across the United States.

We have self-produced three EP releases – “Chasing Lights” to be released August 23, 2015, “Heart, Attack!” in March 2013 and “Tokyo Beat Riot” in 2010. In 2014, we became the first American J-Rock band, and one of just 47 Japanese-language Pop and Rock artists, to play on Pandora radio. In 2012, we contributed a song to “Vivid Covers” a 20th anniversary tribute album to the internationally acclaimed J-Rock band L’Arc~en~Ciel.
