He first debuted as a film writer through Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. This led to Mr. Sakurai joining Production I.G, where he participated in the continuation, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG.
Mr. Sakurai was also involved in projects such as Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, Blood+, Otogi Zoshi, and REDLINE, among others. He was introduced to producing when working as a film writer and the producer for Giovanni's Island in 2014. Currently, Mr. Sakurai is at Studio Signal M.D. serving as the producer for Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (released Nov/Dec 2016) and the upcoming feature film Napping Princess, set to release to theaters in Japan on March 18. 2017.
